Intensive Advanced

Do you have previous experience in acting and seek to develop your skills further?

Thanks to feedback from previous acting students we have a created the Intensive Advanced acting course! Longer intensive sessions, fewer students and more performances! The course is made to suit participants with advanced level experience who want to take it to the next level.

The course is exclusive for only 12 participants, runs for 5 consecutive Saturdays with 4 full day sessions + one full rehearsal and performance day consisting of 2 performances in front of a public audience. 

The course is led by GESTs Joint Artistic Director Gary Whitaker who will use his 40 years experience of working in professional theatre as an actor and director. He will take you through a professional rehearsal process used by GEST. Recommended reading is “Different Every Night: Freeing the Actor” by Mike Alfreds.

Important information

Please note that this course is not "first come, first served". We will go through applications and choose a group of 12 based on your experience. If you are admitted to the course, we will send you an admission mail with more information and an attached invoice. 

It is crucial that you can attend all of the course dates.

Gary Whitaker

Gary is the Joint Artistic Director of GEST with over 40 years experience in professional theatre.  He has been a drama teacher and facilitator for over 20 years.

​His international directing credits includes The Young Vic London, The Contact Theatre Manchester, The Pleasance Theatre Edinburgh, Barletta Festival Italy, Folkteatern Gothenburg and Stadsteatern Stockholm. He has directed many of GEST's productions including Expectations, winner of the Edinburgh Fringe Review Award for Outstanding Theatre. LemonsX5, A Hundred Words for Snow, Ghost Stories,Rotterdam and I and You.

 

His acting theatre credits include leading roles in London's West End, Royal Shakespeare Company, Royal Court, Royal Exchange, West Yorkshire Playhouse, National Theatre Studio and Soho Theatre.

 His film credits include the multi award-winning The Arbor, Melancholia, The Red Riding Trilogy, The Gathering. TV credits include Wire in the Blood, Vincent, Waterloo Road, Sunday, In Deep, The Vice and three series of The First of the Summer Wine for the BBC. For Swedish TV Sommar 85, Fallet, Isprinsessan and 183 Dagar.
