THE COLLECTOR

Performed 19 - 28 April 2007

at Hagateatern in Gothenburg

Gothenburg English Studio Theatre presents The Collector by John Fowles adapted by Mark Healey

Mark Healy's modern adaptation of John Fowles’ bestselling novel The Collector was performed by actors from London and received excellent reviews in all major Gothenburg newspapers.

The Collector is a gripping psychological thriller and a chilling portrayal of one man's darkest fantasies made real. It tells the story of Frederick; the strange, withdrawn 'collector' who, no longer content with butterflies, 'collects' art student Miranda and keeps her captive in the cellar of his home.

The play deals with important subjects such as love, freedom, power and loneliness.

The play is all the more disturbing since the real-life discovery of the young girl kidnapped and held over eight years in a cellar in Austria.

"…it becomes obvious why British actors are considered the best in the world." GöteborgsTidningen (Click the link to see the ful review)

"The Collector is an ambitious performance as well as part of an ambitious project with the goal of providing Gothenburg with British contemporary drama in its original language, which is worth applauding." nummer.se
