THESE

HALCYON

DAYS

Performed

9 November – 10 December 2016

GEST presents the Scandinavian premiere of These Halcyon Days by Deirdre Kinahan.

A funny, touching, life-affirming play about facing our fears, told with wry humour and humanity.

Seán sits alone in a nursing home, abandoned by his memories, when in storms Patricia, a feisty woman with a zest for life. She brings music, laughter and hope with her and an unforeseen relationship develops, by turns charming and combative, tender and witty. A tale of friendship and adventure, a glorious celebration of the human spirit against the odds.

"Tender and hopeful in the autumn of life...the future may be uncertain but the present is for everyone and always worth catching...Both the playwright Deirdre Kinahan and the director Gary Whitaker know how to nurture both the dramatic narrative and the specific environment of the play...The way John Atterbury and Nora Connolly depict the relationship between the pensioners, is both tender and touching" – Göteborgs-Posten

These Halcyon Days was awarded a Fringe First at the Edinburgh Festival and nominated Best New Play in the Irish Times Theatre Awards 2012.

Deirdre Kinahan is one of Ireland's most celebrated contemporary playwrights and her work is produced regularly both in Ireland and on the International stage.
