Who gets to be a champion?

How do you define a good friend?

What makes someone a woman?

Ann meets Sophie when she joins a new athletics club. Both women are running at an elite level, and in with a chance of competing in the world championships. During gruelling training sessions they soon form a bond, and their friendship grows as they support each other in doing the thing they love. Their home lives couldn’t be more different – but that shouldn’t make a difference out on the track. Right?

Fair Play is a bold, dynamic exploration of what happens when outstanding young athletes’ bodies, relationships and realities are up for public debate.

"The dialogue is snappy and delivered with an exquisite naturalness by Susan Akintomide and Lotti Brogan. Kristina Brändén Whitaker's direction lets their different class backgrounds shine through just perfectly in gestures and tone.

Such skilful acting can only be enjoyed in real life." - Göteborgs-Posten 2023-03-06

Praise for the original London production:

“The most promising young playwright in Britain” - The Telegraph

"Sensational, heartbreaking and exhilarating" - WhatsOnStage

****  The Times        ****  The Guardian          ****  The Telegraph      ****  Evening Standard

In conjunction with our production of Fair Play, GEST is hosting an exhibition of new work by Bianco Casco, featuring two works: Queer Village, and Queer Village Letters.

We'll be opening the theatre early so that our audiences can enjoy the exhibition before watching the play.  Entrance to the exhibition is included with all tickets for Fair Play.
